Giovanni Rana

Two weekends ago we went fabric and dress shopping in NYC, (mom, sister, and I) and got lunch in the Chelsea Market at Giovanni Rana. Chelsea Market is an adorable indoor food hall. Buon Italia was bustling and the food was pretty good, service was a little slow because they were understaffed for the rush, but our server was really great. I had the Tagliatelle Bolognese, Alexandra had the spinach and mascapone ravioli in a crispy parmigiano reggiano basket, and my mom had the braised beef ravioli, amarone and porcini mushrooms. The tagliatelle bolognese was delicious; heavy, meaty,  had delicious sauce, had homemade noodles, and  it was like coming home (i love good Italian). The spinach and mascarpone ravioli was also delicious, mascapone is a little sweet but the spinach helped offset it and balance it out, the creamy sauce was delicious and the parmigiano basket looked and tasted awesome, we broke off a bit to eat with every bite. The braised beef ravioli wasn't my favorite, once again homemade pasta so it was nice and light and the beef was nice and tender but I felt like it needed more sauce. To finish we had the chocolate ravioli fritti with raspberry sauce. It was crunchy on the outside with almost like unbaked chocolate cake batter on the inside, it was sort of like a lava cake. All in all delicious, a bit expensive for lunch but then again what isn't in NYC !
